Digital Storytelling for heritage promotion

Digital Storytelling for heritage promotion

April 25th, 2020

Digital storytelling is a relatively new term which describes the  practice of everyday people who use digital tools to tell their ‘story’. Digital stories often present in compelling and emotionally engaging formats, and can be interactive. The most important characteristics of a digital story are that it no longer conforms to the traditional conventions of storytelling because it is capable of combining still imagery, moving imagery, sound, and text, as well as  contain interactive features. And for this very reason digital storytelling is an excellent tool for promotion, it can reach out to many people at a time and influence them with vivid imagery.

Keeping this in mind we developed digital stories on the three art forms- Patachitra, Chau and Baul-Fakiri. The stories were simple and encompassed various aspects of the art forms, the artists and the villages. The digital stories were made on themes like-details about the art form the everyday struggle of  women artists, the factor that pushed the individuals to become artists, the village where the artists reside and continue their work, the village festivals that the ,communities organize every year.
